YSO Announces Vacancy For Principal Trianglist

triangleThe York Symphony Orchestra has announced plans to hold auditions for the position of principal trianglist. The vacancy was created by the recent tragic death of principal trianglist Arnold Flappenstüber, who fell into a pit of alligators during an unusually realistic performance of Jaxs Powell’s opera Albino Alligator.

“We all feel the loss deeply,” said Maestro Robert Hart Baker, who praised Flappenstüber for his dedication and versatility. “I will never forget the concert when he actually doubled on castanets. It was simply breathtaking.”

“The members of his section would have followed Flappenstüber into the fiery pits of hell,” Baker said. “You know why? Because he had balls. Really, really big balls.”

Repertoire in auditions to replace Flappenstüber will include triangle excerpts from Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the “Bridal Chorus” from Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin. Those auditioning will also be asked to strike the triangle internally in a circular motion while yelling, “Come and get it!”

Baker has tapped assistant principal trianglist Max Dinker to cover principal parts while a national search is conducted. Third chair trianglist Hans Vlotenbourg will step up to the assistant principal position.
